2018 ROCC Program Recap

2018 Year in Review

Our 4th summer program was a success! The kids were able to learn new life skills and experiences. Some of the activities and field trips were:

  • Cooking classes led by professional chefs to create healthy meals

  • Learning how to practice peaceful mindfulness

  • Embracing each child's creative side with wood-working, clay making, and painting

  • Guided painting classes

  • Sailing lessons on Lake Michigan

  • Professional cooking classes

  • Creating a nature journal using recyclable paper bags

  • Instructor-led yoga classes

  • Learning about health and nutrition choices

  • Archery lessons in the forest preserve

  • Importance of physical activity in every day life

  • Glass fusing

  • Screen printing on glass

  • Tennis lessons by professional instructors

  • Defining a 'word of the day' every day

  • Working as individuals, small groups, and larger teams to complete projects

  • Woodworking with reclaimed and recycled wood

  • Designing and building their own string wooden art sculptures

  • Creating patience while working with younger kids

  • Visiting Rebuilding Exchange and understanding the importance of reusing materials

  • Fun field trips including a movie theater outing and water park!

  • Team building games

  • Visited the Chicago History Museum

  • Created their own flag

  • Lampworking

  • Learned how to set and achieve goals

  • Took educated nature walks in the forest preserve

  • Exploring different neighborhoods of the city

  • Expression through art, dance, and music

  • Beach day field trip

  • Learning to leave your comfort zone

  • Problem solving activities

  • Learning to communicate in a more effective way

  • Designing and making a clay frame, pot and animal

We are SO excited for all the upcoming activities we will be able to do for the next session! Stay tuned!

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
